Google+ hits the Ipad and Ipod Touch

Social networking application is updated
Tue Aug 09 2011, 09:05

INTERNET SEARCH GIANT Google has updated its Google+ application for IOS devices, bringing the social network that's not Facebook to the Ipad and Ipod touch.

Punit Soni, lead product manager for Google+ Mobile fittngly used his Google+ account to announce the release.

"Happy Monday! To help fight off any start-of-the-work-week blues, a new version of our Google+ iPhone app (v 1.0.2.1966) will be rolling out in the Appstore over the next few hours. Get it hot off the presses from: (link to Apple store)," he said.

The release was introduced on Youtube in a video walkthrough of the application on the newly added devices. Many of the features will be familiar to anyone that uses the social networking application on a mobile device, and judging by what we have seen it looks like a rather smooth experience.

Perhaps with an eye on the privacy failings of other, similar services, Google+ technical lead Sharvil Nanavati said that users would find setting their controls a easy task, and he added that the secure settings icon was clearly displayed on the homescreen.

Apparently there is a "secret way" to bring up a stream selection icon. We take this to mean that someone bungled the UI programming. But maybe that's just us. µ

Weak App on Android

I have it on android. Very weak app. Almost a joke. It is certainly significantly more difficult to use the Android app than it is to just hit the web page. I guess there are certain assumptions that companies are making (including Google) about mobile apps. A word of advice--they don't have to be under-powered & cheapskate in design. Make them the real thing and stop assuming I want to see everything in mobile form. That goes for the G+ app in Android.

Not really an iPad app

These announcement by Google and corresponding news stories are misleading. It's not really an iPad app, but the iPhone app can now be used on an iPad - as an iPhone app. Therefore, it's 1/4 of the screen size on an iPad, unless you zoom in. So Google+ thus is aligned with Facebook - both have released an iOS app for iPhone which can be accessed on an iPad. But no users are interested in this concept, only real iPad apps counts. Stop telling lies, please.
