ONLINE ELECTRONICS RETAILERS have slashed the price of Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play handset by half.
Expansys has reduced the price of Sony's gaming device by almost half - from £499 to £289, while at other web sites including Play and Amazon the device is available at £299.
This compares with the £500 price tag still on the phone if you buy it from mobile retailers such as Carphone Warehouse and the mobile operators.
Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play handset has been criticised by many who say the smartphone missed out by not providing true integration with Sony's Playstation.
Sony Ericsson told us it couldn't comment on what its partners are doing, but we wonder if rumours of flagging sales have played a part.
The Play has a 1GHz processor and Adreno GPU graphics processor. The combination of these two processors offers 60 frames per second for gaming and browsing with little battery consumption.
The slide-out gaming control sports a digital D-pad, two analogue touch-pads, two shoulder buttons and the four Playstation icons - circle, cross, square and triangle.
The Xperia Play runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and comes with Playstation certification, which brings Playstation content availability via the Playstation Suite. µ
