LONDON BOBBIES, the Metropolitan Police has issued a warning to Anonymous hacktivists in which it says that it knows what they are doing and that it is illegal.
Is this news to Anonymous? Probably not, and nor is the warning that investigations, such as the one that picked up Lulzsec's alleged digital graffiti artist 'Topiary', are continuing.
"The investigation into the criminal activity of so-called 'hacktivist' groups #Anonymous and #LulzSec continues. We want to remind people of the law in this area," it says, before reminding us about the law against computer misuse.
It explains, "Anyone considering accessing a computer without authority should understand that such acts are unlawful and can carry a term of imprisonment," and that, "It is an offence if a person acts from within the UK upon a computer anywhere else in the world", which we probably shock anyone that uses one of those remote login tools, and that, "It is also an offence [for] someone anywhere else in the world to criminally affect a computer within the UK."
The police swapped the cuff on the ear for the piece of wordy advice years ago, so it is not surprising that Scotland Yard took the opportunity to remind us that there will be consequences, should anyone get caught.
The warning got a swift dismissal from the AnonactionUK Twitter account when we put it to the group.
"We don't recognise that law. What we do is legitimate peaceful protest, and that isn't a crime...", it said, "despite what the corrupt lawmakers say." µ
They want a cut, they are used to getting a cut.
But listen up coppers, anonymous doesn't make any money from it, there are no cuts to get, although that concept of course is so alien you won't be able to grasp it. /s
THE POLICE DONT CARE ABOUT ANYBODY EQUALLY.
AND THE WAY THEY WORK IS MARVELOUS. THEY ALREADY KNOW WHO YOU ARE BECAUSE GUESS WHAT, THEY HIRED SOME HACKERS OF THEIR OWN. THEN THEY ACCUMULATE ENOUGH EVIDENCE TO ESTABLISH JUST CAUSE, THEN THEY BRING YOU IN FOR QUESTIONING. AND THEY JUST SIT ON YOU UNTIL YOU ADMIT WHAT YOU'VE DONE, WHICH FOR THE TYPICAL ANONYMOUS N00B IS PROBABLY IN THE ORDER OF MINUTES IF NOT SECONDS.
IF YOU ACTUALLY KNEW WHAT YOU WERE DOING YOU'D HAVE ACCESS TO A LAWYER (BUT YOU'RE TOO BROKE FOR THAT) OR ELSE YOU'D KNOW HOW TO KEEP YOUR TRAP SHUT (BUT BEING PART OF ANONYMOUS, THAT SKILL IS BEYOND YOUR N00B COMPREHENSION).
AND BELIEVE IT OR NOT, THE COURTS CARE EVEN LESS ABOUT YOU, OR ANYBODY AT ALL FOR THAT MATTER. THEY HAVE ALL DAY EVERY DAY TO FOCUS ON PROCESS, WHICH WILL DRAG AND DRAG AND DRAG AND YUP, YOU'RE GOING TO CRACK.
ANONYMOUS IS TOO STOOPID NOT TO CRACK!
This may not be a surprise to hackers but they are making it very easy for authorities to justify a huge increase in resources to fight digital crime. The end result is not likely to be what these hackers had in mind.
The Met are currently in no position to talk about accessing computer systems without authority, ie police looking up names, addresses, registration numbers for cash paid by reporters. Allegedly. Obviously.
Hypocrites!
