Android will turn the tablet market on its head

Will wrestle the lead from Apple’s Ipad
Thu Jul 28 2011, 09:47

SCATTER CUSHION HARDWARE, the tablet computer, will make its way into most homes with the Android operating system in place, according to a report.

Informa Telecoms and Media said that despite its considerable hold on the market Apple's IOS based machines will start to fall out of favour with users over the next four years before being completely swept aside by Android devices.

Informa has gone into some detail about the rise of Android on tablets and has decided that it will really start punching its weight in 2013 before battling with Apple in 2016 and knocking it onto the canvas the year after.

"Three factors have proven to be decisive in the success and failure of tablets: brand; access to distribution channels; and product quality, including the application environment offered," said Informa telecoms and media principal analyst David McQueen.

"At the moment, the iPad leads in all three areas but Apple's edge is likely to wane as the quality of the competing products and application environments improves."

Although there are some low-priced Android tablets available already, Informa reckons that it will be increased availability that really increases Android tablet sales. It estimates that by 2015 some 230 million tablets will be sold every year. µ

Android is doing a great job in the Tablet Market, I have to wonder about Win 8 - maybe a contender - but some want open!

Access your home PC from your Android device by using the 2X client App from
2x-dot-com
also has client for iOS. Voted 20th overall best Android App!

Re: windows 8

Windows 8 will be a non-starter. Why? Think of the #1 reason people buy Windows PCs: it’s to run their existing legacy software. All of which is written for x86, none of which will run on ARM.

Ergo, Windows on ARM is a complete waste of time. QED.

Early trend?

Our research shows that customers express more satisfaction with tablets which are powered by proprietary operating systems as oppose to those that use Android. You can see the evidence by following this link http://tinyurl.com/customerintelligence.
The trend is particularly pronounced among customers who do not identify themselves as "gadget enthusiasts" or "technical professionals". We will continue to analyze feedback from customers to assess if this is a new trend or a temporary spike.

windows 8

I agree with Frank.

Windows 8 will probably give android/apple a real contender. at least in it's sp1 form :-). MS has a hard time getting it right before SP1.

I also think all these people who doom and gloom in apple in 4-5 years are forgetting they are making tonnes of money. They could choose to compete in different ways if they wanted (like license iOS).

Personally I want a windows 8 tablet.

I dunno

The fact that Windows 8 will be compatible with Arm Processors means that Microsoft is looking at combining the Windows Kernel so as to have one OS across the computers, phones, and tablets. If they get rid of Balmer and have the good sense to lower the price of the OS, they could actually rise up to become a real player in Tablets and Smartphones from where they are now.
