HTC will build an Omega WP7 smartphone

It's a high-end Mango handset
Tue Jul 26 2011, 15:39

TAIWANESE PHONE MAKER HTC plans to make a high-end smartphone called the Omega that will run Windows Phone 7 (WP7) Mango.

According to Gadgetian, the phone will be named the HTC Omega and have a Qualcomm 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor. There are currently no details as to when the phone will arrive or how much it will cost.

Predictably HTC is unwilling to comment about it because the handset is only a 'rumour' so far, so we will have to wait for an announcement.

Other specifications include a 3.8in WVGA touchscreen with 480x800 resolution and 512MB of RAM. The smartphone will also have 16GB of internal storage and an 8MP camera.

The handset sounds similar to HTC's current 7 Mozart model, which runs WP7 and has a 3.7in touchscreen, 576MB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage and an 8MP camera.

What's stange about the specifications for the Omega is the lack of an SD card slot and a front facing camera. Both are features that we think are fairly standard for a smartphone and expect to get in a high-end handset made by HTC.

We're not surprised that HTC might make a WP7 Mango handset but the specifications seem a little strange so far. We'll keep a lookout for more information from HTC about the Omega. µ

@Should be a cheapo phone

How much do they pay you per post to spew your lies?

So so sad, and so utterly Wong!

p.s. What's with these "I am so ugly, pathetic and dickless that I have to pretend to be rich" spam mails that have been showing up in a lot of the comments lately?

Should be a cheaper phone?

Omega should be 800MHz, Eternity should be 1.5GHz.

Lack of user-removable SD card has proven to be a non-issue, and the upside is OEM-tested internal SD cards or fixed flash chips providing more reliability and performance (noticable when you compare Windows Phone 7 (smooth with no lag) to Android/WinMobile6.5 (slow, clunky, huge lag, unstable, multiple reboots per day)).

There is a growing momentum of Android and iPhone users upgrading to Windows Phone 7, due to not only the increased functionality of the OS but also the increase in performance with such a silky smooth user interface.

Windows? No Thanks.

Microsoft has been running an extortion campaign against Linux device manufacturers. You would think that since they are a convicted monopolist they would have learned there lesson. Instead they are trying to extract a tax through extortion on all devices manufactured with Linux and threating manufacturers with lawsuits. This has ultimately soured me to Microsoft products and since there really nothing compelling for me to look at Windows on my phone I'll avoid it and continue to advise everyone I know to do the same until Microsoft cease and desist from using these sleazy bully practices in the marketplace.

STANDARDS

Is an SD card *absolutely* necessary? I mean, sure for some devices it's a nice addition but what use is extra space for physical storage media in an age where the cloud is rapidly growing? You might as well say that you still get Bluray DVDs, VHS and cassette tapes! Vinyl records? =p

Duh

SD-card and all other features are completely meaningless. I'd much rather have the Micr0$uck$ LoseDoze Fone7 O/S so I can install the internet onto the phone to be able to browse the web and point and click and cut and paste and multitask and do all of the things that so DIFFICULT if not outright IMPOSSIBLE with any other mobile device.
