HTC Evo 3D will tip up on 5 September

With a £500 price tag

TAIWANESE PHONE MAKER HTC's Evo 3D smartphone will tip up on 5 September at Play.com, but maybe sooner at Vodafone.

We've already got LG's Optimus 3D and the wait for the competition is going to be a while. Online retailer Play.com has the Evo 3D for £499 and an availability date of 5 September.

Amazon.co.uk is the only other place we can find a date, which is 12 September and the same price of £499. We're a bit surprised by these dates, because when HTC announced the handset would be coming to the UK on Facebook, it said it would be "hitting UK shelves from July!".

We hope that the phone does arrive earlier than September, as we're keen to put it up against the LG Optimus 3D, the only glasses free smartphone available in the UK at the moment.

This could happen courtesy of Vodafone, which HTC told The INQUIRER will have the exclusive launch of the phone. The Evo 3D is currently sitting on the mobile operator's coming soon page.

We are still waiting to hear back from HTC for a specific launch date, but when the phone does tip up it will offer glasses free 3D technology in an Android handset.

It will have a Qualcomm 1.2GHz Snapdragon dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 1GB of internal storage. HTC is calling it a 'superphone' and it will boast a large 4.3in Super LCD touchscreen display with 540x960 resolution.

WiFi, Bluetooth, DLNA and a microUSB port will all feature on the Evo 3D, along with dual 5MP cameras. It isn't the thinnest of phones at 12.5mm and it weighs 170g, which is a bit more than the HTC Sensation weight of 148g. µ

3D APIs?

I only hope the 3D APIs on the two 3D handsets are the same

I was all set to buy this

September is a stupid release date. They said themselves July and now their main rival is here it makes no sense to hold it back its already available else where.

The HTC looks to be better in all respects to LG.

Battery, Screen Res, Ergonmics. OS. So Why wait?

I was all set to go get one and finally get out from under apples thumb but Septembers a while away and Orange say their 25% discount perks could expire end of July so I don't know what to do. :(
