Greenpeace fights off Lucasfilm, Volkswagen at Youtube over parody ad
ECO WARRIOR Greenpeace has won a battle for internet freedom having successfully batted away Lucasfilm and Youtube.
Greenpeace won the attentions of the firms' lawyers by creating a parody advert based on a Star Wars themed Volkwagen ad. While the VW advert borrowed from the Lucas space saga - and by borrowed we guess we mean 'paid to use' - the charity did not and because it is a good cause pressure lobby and activist group it was quickly silenced.
"A few days into our campaign while our Volkswagen film was the most shared 'ad' in the world, YouTube suspended it after a complaint from Lucasfilm," explained Greenpeace in a blog post.
"We thought it strange that our film would be taken down three days into our campaign, while dozens of other parodies of the same Volkswagen advert - including one by the BBC - remained untouched."
The Greenpeace video, which really is not that different from the other parodies except perhaps for the fact that it goes after a large corporation, was offline for two weeks before Greenpeace lawyers made Youtube see sense.
"Greenpeace International filed a counter notification via YouTube's website, protesting the censorship of the film," it explained. "Well it seems now that reason has prevailed, and our YouTube video is back up - after more than two weeks being suspended...
"We can't thank you enough. There are always people (and forces) trying to stifle and neutralise our campaigns. That's what happens when you challenge power... The Force is with you, Jedi." µ

This was probably fun to do but VW are hardly the main cause of CO2. It's a drop in the ocean next to China and it's power industry.
I do belive in global warming I don't belive it's preventable though.
The planets supposed to be warming up naturally anyway. Antartica has had a tropical climate much longer than a icey one.
I see the point here as being the fight of big companies against people putting up satires, rather than the actual carbon dioxide thing.
In other words it IS about freedom.
All c02 footprint and global warming terrorists should stop breathing permanently and get rid of all this hot air.
More global warming nonsense Al Gore and Co in it for the money and cheesy science trying to manipulate the data so their theories fit.......lets find a real cause to fight for like FREEDOM!!
