ONLINE PAYMENT FIRM Paypal has shown off its wireless payment system, which works by touching two handsets together.
The system, called near field communications (NFC), uses an Android widget and currently lets people make payments just by touching two Samsung Nexus S handsets.
It's not really new, but has a lot of traction at the moment, and the names Google, which went big on it at its I/O conference, and Paypal, Ebay's paymet transfer vehicle, and Samsung, which we think makes some handsets, are presumably enough to kick off consumer interest.
"We've said all along that consumer behavior won't change unless we're able to offer an experience that's truly better than what's available today," said Laura Chambers, senior director of mobile for Paypal in a blog posting.
"We've been looking at NFC technology for a while and we saw a tremendous opportunity to combine the best of NFC and the best of PayPal."
The phone touching payment excitement took place at Mobilebeat 2011, and saw Chambers take the stage to hold up one of the wallet-like mobile phones. The experience is mirrored on Youtube and reproduced below, and if you have a Samsung phone you could be making tactile payments by the end of the Summer. µ

The NFC though an old concept like the Bluetooth, it is one of those short range service that is has found utility that can be probably the most integral factor in retail markets or other payment transaction business enterprises. Described as the contactless transaction, the biggies in the mobile space like Google have launched an app called the Google wallet that seems to change the trend of credit/debit cards. A Pizza retailer with a number of branches in and around UK has used NFC to get the bills paid by their customers in a hassle free way. This technology is a sure ROI and the maintenance cost might just fit the bill and may be the chips responsible for the transaction is to be maintained.
