HTC brings Gingerbread to its Desire Z smartphone

Customers finally get an answer
Tue Jul 12 2011, 11:32

TAIWANESE PHONE MAKER HTC has announced it will roll out Android 2.3 Gingerbread to its Desire Z smartphone in the coming weeks.

Android updates have all been about the HTC Desire recently with changes of mind and memory problems. Now HTC has delighted another set of its customers by confirming the update for owners of the Desire Z.

On its Facebook page, HTC said, "Thanks to everyone whos been patiently waiting for the Gingerbread update for Desire Z. We are in the last stages of testing and plan to start rolling out the update over the air in the coming weeks. It may take a little time to reach all of you across every network but it should have reached everyone by the end of the month."

HTC first announced the update in February and gave priority to its most recent handset, the Incredible S, which has been running Android 2.3 Gingerbread since around April.

Since then HTC has made many announcements about the operating system upgrade. Almost all of these have been for the Desire, which HTC announced wouldn't get Gingerbread due to memory limitations. HTC then caved in to customer demand a day later.

Among all the Facebook posts have been a lot of comments from Desire Z owners pleading for information about their phone, with no reply from HTC, although it is keen to say that it listens to its customers.

The wait is finally almost over as HTC has said the Desire Z will be getting the update, which should get to handsets before the end of July and bring them up to speed with the latest Android version. µ
