One in four people are tied to a PC

Computers are irreplaceable joys
Mon Jul 11 2011, 09:40

A QUARTER of Britons could not live without their personal computers, according to some nonsense research from Microsoft, which has released a new dump of computers called, "The Collection".

Microsoft, which sources tell us has something of a vested interest in people using personal computers, has sponsored a survey that found out something that no one really needed telling, that for a lot of us the personal computer is a big part of their day.

In fact, the research that we stumbled on at the Telegraph newspaper claims that the computer is "the most irreplaceable thing in their life", which makes us wonder whether they have heard of backing up their files, or, closer to home, putting things into perspective.

Other findings from the research include the news that people use their PCs for more than two hours every evening, and that for one in seven people, surfing the internet and drinking booze is the perfect way to spend an evening.

Suddenly, and as if from nowhere, Futurologist Dr Rachel Lawes then appeared in the article to tell us that the PC, "is the essential piece of kit that defines what it means to be alive at this moment in history", and, "The PC is to consumers what the car used to be in the 20th century." µ

I'll tell you what the true breakout hit will be...

I know the solution. I'm handicapped, so can't afford to go through the patent process. The key is wearable computers, as in eyeglasses or contact lens. The problem with tablets is that people want keyboards, but keyboards tend to be difficult to carry around with the tablets. The solution is what I call a keyboard "glove." It would mean more people needing to learn to touch type, but would be better in the end. Think of the left pinkie on an American keyboard. Don't really know about English keyboards. On an American keyboard, the Q key is above the pinkie, so to type a Q the left pinkie would go in the direction the top of the hand is facing and it would be interpreted as a Q by the "glove." I put the quotes because there are multiple ways to detect muscle movement. A stab out would be a W, with the definition of out being specific to the person. A stab down would be a Z. See how it works? You just have to learn to type on a Qwerty keyboard, then just use the glove. No more keyboard needed, just a detection device to detect finger movements.

Srsly?

One in four couldn't live ... as in they would actually die if the PC was never invented? I find that somewhat hard to believe. I'm sure they'd find a way of buying food and paying water bills without a PC

I do hope you're not getting into News of the World style over-sensationalist style journalism are you Inq?
