Google adds inbox styles management to Gmail

Choose your own style

INTERNET SEARCH GIANT Google has improved its widely used Gmail service with the ability to choose your favourite inbox style.

Google will let users update their Gmail interfaces with a choice of different inbox styles. These offer easier and better ways for Gmail users to organise and manage their inboxes.

Via its blog Google said, "Over the coming weeks, we're rolling out several new inbox styles to help you manage your mail in the way that works best for you. Once it's turned on for your account, you can easily choose a style from the tabs at the top of your inbox."

There will be a few different styles to choose from, so there's something to suit everyone. 'Classic' is the default style that everyone will be familiar with already, where messages are ordered chronologically.

Google introduced 'Priority Inbox' last year where important and starred messages appear before the rest of your emails. 'Important First' will put the most important messages first, whether they are read or unread and everything else is in a separate section.

The two remaining styles are 'Unread First' and 'Starred First'. These do exactly as you would expect and put either unread or starred emails at the top of your inbox.

Once you've been using a style for about a week, the tabs to select the different styles will automatically disappear. You're not locked to that style forever of course, as you will always be able to go into the settings and change your inbox style if you wish. µ
