INQUIRER readers are more excited about AMD Llano chips than they are about anything that Intel is, or could be doing, at least according to a poll here on the web site.
In response to recent news about AMD's new Llano notebook APUs we asked whether anyone is looking forward to their release, and if so, whether they might buy some hardware with those inside.
Yes was the overwhelming answer with 36 per cent of the vote, and the most positive responses fell to the option: "Yes, AMD's Llano APUs are better balanced than Intel's chips."
The option with the second most responses, slightly less at 28 per cent, said that they expected that its integrated CPU plus GPU chip will extend the battery life of notebooks, and 10 per cent said that they would, but only if the notebooks also include a "powerful discrete GPU".
Others were less keen however, and eight per cent said that regardless of who said what, they were "not interested in a notebook without a discrete GPU".
But 18 per cent, a fairly respectable number, answered, "No, what's an APU anyway?" µ
Great job AMD!
Personally:
Even more GPU power is needed. Waiting for the next generation with better integration of GPU+CPU(2014?)
Integrated graphics is going to get much better due to fusion and sandy bridge. Waiting to see Fusion notebooks with USB 3 and blue ray. Lower end of pc spectrum will definately benefit. Intel should have bought nvidia intead of wasting money on macafee. Now nvidia will soon make quad core arm cpus & with windows 8 beat atom as well. AMD SOI may prove better than intel 3D, still to be seen
Did any of you guys and gals read about how Intel bribed (and threatened) manufacturers and retailers around the world to maintain monoplistic domination?
Innovation means nothing these days. Intel's law breaking means death to AMD.
I wish I could get rid of my damn pentium dual core laptop right now so I move to llano A6. My netbook on the other side is ok with the E240 but maybe I'll upgrade to a E350. The E240 is too slow sometimes.
With only pro Llano items to choose from, the "result" is no wonder.
For laptop use AMD has a real winner with the Llano series APUs. They offer what most people desire in a laptop - real performance, value and battery life. If you need more CPU power then wait for Trinity.
