THE US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has arrested a teenager in Ohio who is suspected to be a member of Lulzsec,
Lulzsec claimed it disbanded last week, prompting speculation that it was trying to avoid a rapidly closing net. Then it denied this, in a way, and instead the group said that it was moving on to pastures new, specifically the Antisec movement it embraced with Anonymous. However, that does not mean that it has lost the attentions of the law.
The UK has witnessed the arrest of Ryan Cleary, who is also suspected to be part of Lulzsec and is accused of hacking a number of organisations. As with Cleary, this arrest seems to involve someone that the group, or a faction within it, had exposed.
Reportedly Cleary was exposed by the hackers after an internal falling out, and so were two other individuals, one of whom was said to live in Ohio.
This coincidence was spotted by Graham Cluley at Sophos, who blogged about the arrest.
"A June 21st posting by LulzSec on PasteBin claimed to reveal the true identities of members who called themselves 'm_nerva' and 'hann'", he wrote.
"In m_nerva's case, his address was listed by LulzSec as being in Hamilton, Ohio. A tweet published at the same time as the information was posted indicated that there was little love between LulzSec members and the member they believed had snitched on them."
Anonymous, or at least one of the Twitter accounts associated with it, is non-plussed by the claims, and tweeted, "According to recent news reports, basically most of @LulzSec & #AntiSec personnel have been arrested. So, why are we still here?" µ
