PHONE MAKER Motorola's upcoming Milestone 3 smartphone won't be available in the UK.
Just over a week after we saw the first leaked videos showing the handset, we're hearing that the Milestone 3 - the Droid 3 for you Americans - won't be coming to the UK.
"Some disappointing news this morning in that the recently leaked Motorola Milestone 3 will not see a UK release," said clove.co.uk in its blog. "Of course, these things are open to change, but the message that we are receiving at the moment is that it will not be launched in the UK."
We contacted Clove, which told us that the information came from a "reliable source" but refused to reveal exactly where. In a similarly vague fashion Motorola told us that "it would not comment on any rumour or speculation".
The Clove blog post gave no solid reason as to why this decision has been made but guessed that it might be linked to the disappointing sales of the Milestone 2. It also suggested that since the HTC Desire Z has been discontinued, "perhaps the Android QWERTY slider form factor just hasn't been that popular in the UK".
From the leaked videos, which have since been pulled from Youtube, we thought the phone looked like a nice upgrade from the Milestone 2. The Android handset has a larger looking screen, an extra row of keys on the keyboard and even an HDMI port.
It would seem strange for Motorola to decide against bringing the Milestone 3 to our shores and putting the focus on the Motorola Pro and Atrix, especially when the Milestone 3 has a different selling point. We'll just have to wait and see what Motorola announces. µ

Want to replace my old win mo touch pro with a decent android slider.
Desire Z has that silly hinge and milestone 2 had a locked boot loader.
or you could just go and get one on ebay???
Given the "quality" of Motorola's keyboard (you press a key once and get random number of letters between 0 and 4 each time), no wonder nobody wants it.
With Motorola, there is also an issue of locked bootloader, and "one minor OS update and that's about it" policy.
Not to mention that Google is snooping on your searches and you start getting emails with offers for items you have been searching for from your phone -- Android, your friendly data mining facility. All your secrets belong to us.
Really? I know T-Mob had dropped their G2 version in the USA, but hadn't seen anything about the DZ being dropped elsewhere, it's still on the HTC website.
The DZ is a great little phone. It can be unlocked (after a minor fight), and the 800Mhz CPU overclocks like a demon. I've seen benchmarks of it pushing 2Ghz!
I got one to replace my N97, and unlike the N97, it more than lived up to my expectation. I bought it direct, off contract, as I was still trapped in the 24 month N97 contract with Orange, and just couldn't put up with the clunky PoS any longer.
The problem the DZ seems to have is the carriers aren't carrying it here. No idea why. It's not like they have any other QWERTY Android phones on their books. I even had a sales assistant in a 3 store ask to borrow mine and went off round the store showing it to her colleagues when my other half was buying her Desire HD.
