Apple's IOS 5 gets jailbroken within 24 hours of launch

The Dev Team does a job on Steve Jobs
Tue Jun 07 2011, 18:50

SHINY TOY MAKER Apple clearly hasn't put too much effort into protecting IOS 5 from the Iphone Dev Team, with one of its members claiming to have already jailbroken IOS 5.

Musclenerd, a well known member of the Iphone Dev Team, showed pictures of IOS 5 running the Cydia application that allows users to load applications that are not available on Apple's strictly controlled App Store. More importantly, Musclenerd showed off shell access to his fourth generation Ipod Touch.

At present the jailbreak is a tethered one, but given that IOS 5 was only shown off yesterday, it's quite harsh to beat up on the guy. Although the Iphone Dev Team has shown time after time that it can beat Apple's 'security' measures to jailbreak IOS, the fact that it broken a major IOS update within 24 hours of it being publicly shown is pretty embarrassing for Apple.

It could be that Jobs' Mob knew that eventually the Iphone Dev Team would have jailbroken IOS 5 so it didn't put too much effort into plugging all the holes. The fact is, the majority of IOS users are perfectly happy using the App Store, however for those that want to make use of the considerable hardware that lies beneath that Retina Display, then the Iphone Dev Team's work means that IOS 5 can be considered.

An official jailbreak release has yet to be announced, but don't expect it to be all that long before an untethered jailbreak tips up on the Dev-Team blog. µ

Waht about Ipad 2??

Apple A4 has been dumped long ago, so it's easy to write a jailbreak for any firmware appears, but what about Ipad 2??????? A5 is unbreakable at the moment, seems nobody is able to crack it.......

But still no unlock?

A way to unlock the latest 3gs baseband without using an ipad baseband and borking your gps would be nice. All those at&t iphones trapped.

Stumped

Instead of cracking the IOS 5 in less then 24 maybe hours. Maybe they should concentrate on more difficult things that their supporters have been waiting for. Like a crack for 4.10.01. Dev Team managed to crack IOS 5 in less then 24 hours but havent made any replies in regards to the 4.10.01 in months. GG
