Sony Ericsson's Xperia Pro goes on pre-order for £349

Like the Xperia Play but with a keyboard

PHONE MAKER Sony Ericsson has put its Xperia Pro smartphone up for pre-order on its own web site with an availability date of June.

At its web site, Sony Ericsson has revealed the price for its Xperia Pro as £349.99 SIM free. Although we're already into the month of June, the page vaguely says only that the phone will be available in June.

If you haven't heard of the Xperia Pro, and we don't mean the Xperia Mini Pro that we wrote about recently, it's probably because it was overshadowed by the Xperia Play and Xperia Arc.

We can't find the phone up for pre-order on any other retail or mobile operator web sites, which have statements along the lines of "price not announced". We've contacted all of the major mobile operators to find out which of them are likely to carry the phone.

So far none have confirmed whether they will have the handset, but Vodafone seemed pretty sure that it will when we asked it.

As you can see from the image, the Xperia Pro is basically the Xperia Play but with a keyboard instead of gaming controls and one less button. The Xperia Pro has a 3.7in screen with 480x854 resolution, runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, is powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and has HDMI connectivity. µ

not the play

Actually it is a Xperia Neo with keboard, not Play. Is has the exact features of Neo (screen, construction) but with a keyboard, just like the new Xperia Mini and Mini Pro. The only resemblance with Play is that it has a slider, but that's not enough to call it a Play with keyboard.

Keyboard is the key

I'd swap one core for a physical keyboard any day.

Costly Single Core

It is phone but costly because of its low specifications. Can get dual core better camera, better screen phones for this price. Price listed may be official price but needs to sell at £100 with these specifications
