Acer unveils its Iconia Tab M500, a Meego tablet powered by an Intel Atom chip

Computex 2011 Looks to steal the show with a 'snackable' device

TAIWANESE HARDWARE MAKER Acer barged in on Intel's press conference at Computex today to unveil a 10in Meego tablet running an Atom processor.

The Iconia Tab M500 appears to sport a similar chassis to the firm's A500, which comes with Android Honeycomb, and has been designed to offer a user experience similar to "fast food", according to Acer associate VP David Lee.

Demoing the unit in front of another tablet-hungry audience here in Taipei, Lee said that "people are looking for a snacking experience that they can use anytime or anywhere".

We're not completely sure what he meant by this - that it was cheap and disposable or lightweight, portable and user friendly. Probably the latter.

In any case Acer showed it displaying several live widgets on its 1280x800 resolution screen.

The device seemed a little unresponsive when Lee was demoing it, but one interesting feature is a circular user interface brought up on the screen with a multi-touch gesture, which appears to give access to content stored on the device in a user-friendly way. µ

@Davina,Only a completely mesmerized...

...Jobsian cult monkey, such as yourself, could think that any Jobs presentation was anything other than completely dull and boring. The man may be a brilliant 'shiny new toy' designer but he has absolutely no stage presence except to you Iphone/Ipad/Ipod cult lemmings. The rest of us just shake our heads back and forth in shear disbelief that his deadpan shtick is so effective on you iDiots. The fact that Jobs always practices his spiel for hours just before each presentation makes them seem even more laughable.

Davina, go have yourself a tall glass of that "revolutionary, cool, remarkable..." Jobsian Kool-aid. The first round is on me!

That Was A Presentation?

Wow: launch of new product. It might be real good but we cannot tell that from such a breath-talkingly dreary 'presentation'.

Go watch the Jobs's archives to see how it's done.
