STEVE JOBS' GADGET OUTFIT Apple has extended its Iwork productivity applications for its pocket sized devices.

The Iwork applications Keynote, Pages and Numbers are available now for the Iphone, Ipod Touch and Ipad and each costs £5.99.

"Now you can use Keynote, Pages and Numbers on Iphone and Ipod Touch to create amazing presentations, documents and spreadsheets right in the palm of your hand," said Philip Schiller, Apple's SVP of worldwide product marketing as he talked up the Iwork apps' predictably exhilarating features.

"The incredible Retina display, revolutionary multi-touch interface and our powerful software make it easy to create, edit, organise and share all of your documents from Iphone 4 or Ipod Touch," he burbled.

The apps do things like import and export documents from Mac and Office software applications and mimic, albeit on small devices, many of their features.

So, presentation happy travellers can use Keynote to create showmanlike slide shows while on holiday, while those with incredibly good eyesight will marvel at the quality of document and spreadsheet images thanks to the Iphone Retina display that Schiller was banging on about.

Pages is a word processor, but not just any old word processor. Apple said it "is the most beautiful word processor ever designed for a mobile device", while Numbers, apparently, puts the fun into viewing spreadsheets on small screens. µ

You don't need very good eyesight to appreciate this ...

... you actually need to be short-sighted - we have the ability to focus very close! There you go - a productivity app and phone platform for the short-sighted!

Already available on iPad

The iPad already had iWork, this just extends it to the iPhone and iPod Touch. Wonder how usable it is on a <4 screen...
