UFO ENTHUSIAST Gary McKinnon is unlikely to be spared extradition, according to the US Attorney General.
Eric Holder has insisted that McKinnon face trial in a US court, and is quoted in the Daily Mail saying that the country will "take all of the necessary steps" to have him packed abroad and "held accountable for the crimes that he committed". Presumably that means life in prison for McKinnon.
McKinnon's case is well supported by those outside of power and although the Clegg and Cameron double act promised that they would revisit it when campaigning for office they forgot about that sort of thing once they had their feet under their respective ornate desks.
Unsurprisingly McKinnon's mum was disappointed about the latest progress in her son's case.
"I'm quite frankly shocked by the response of the U.S. Attorney General," she told the Daily Mail. "Britain needs to see the compassionate face of America that we had all expected to see when Obama was elected. Britain stands side by side America... If America asked our Prime Minister not to extradite an American, David Cameron would instantly agree to America's request."
She added that this last part was moot as, in her opinion America would not ask, it would just refuse to comply with any extradition request, something that she believes the UK government does not have the nerve to do.
"The time has come for our Government to show their compassion and to assert their authority and to simply refuse to extradite," she added. µ

"Presumably that means life in prison." It means no such thing. Injecting hyperbole such as this is obscuring legitimate debate on what should be a simple criminal case.
Bah, the guy did the government a favor by revealing all the systems which had no passwords. He damaged nothing.
The real problem is that the U.S. military is embarrassed.
Firstly, don't blame the hackers/crackers/whatever if you left your computer open to attacks and/or has been lured by porn sites into downloading and installing yourself malware into your own machine.
Hackers always aim for stupid people or big companies. If you're not a big company, well.
Also, McKinnon's country is very well capable of punishing him in strict compliance to all international and USA laws. The geographic location of the punishment shouldn't be an issue.
I myself didn't feel bad at all when I knew that USA "intelligence" was shamefully pranked by a young guy alone.
The laws don't change because some people are whining or in denial. Hacking is a crime and hackers are prosecuted everyday as McKinnon will eventually be. It's the law.
that Barack Obama senior and junior (pres) were both CIA. lots of links such as www.infowars.com/bombshell-barack-obama-conclusively-outed-as-cia-creation/ have some background. I personally don't know if this is true, but if so it might shed some light on the presidential policies including the McKinnon lynch mob?
There's no bail Strauss-Kahn cos he might abscond...presumable to France, who presumably don't bend over backwards & take it, from the yanks as their 'special relationship' buddies do; this case in point.
The 'special relationship' is only 1 way each-and-every-UK-government WAKE UP!
He didn't kill anybody. He just wanted to uncover what the so called democratic american govt wants to hide about UFOs to its own people and the people of the world. He is a truth seeker and a whistle blower.
Look for example for the Zimbabwe School UFO or the Varginha UFO incident.
You were victimized by a cracker, not a hacker.
The precise definition of terms can be very important, depending on what we're talking about. People think it's funny that I get offended when the US is referred to as a democracy, rather than the proper term, constitutional republic. A democracy wouldn't use an electoral college to elect the president.
Terms are extremely important, especially when it comes to determining whether or not someone is guilty of a crime.
Boo Hoo. This whole McKinnon affair would have been over by now with him back in the UK if he just manned up and came over to stand trial. He would have gotten a slap on the wrist and maybe a few months time as an example. Stop being a baby. You did the crime, now do the time.
I really have NO sympathy for McKinnon or any other hacker.
I had my identity stolen by someone who broke into my computer. I lost a lot of money and every single bit of my privacy. The police said there was nothing they could do because hacking just isn't considered a crime like burglary is. At least, not yet.
So, Gary McKinnon hacked the wrong people. Let him do some time and think about all those who have been victims of hackers.
I hope they lock them all up.
... what damage did he do?
Is this circus act still ongoing? Send the case to trial ferchrissake.
..and you're just another twat, but you dont see us launching you in space because of that.
yet.
The mental illness smoke screen isn't going to work just because the bleeding hearts are naive. McKinnon will be prosecuted like any other hacker and that is the way it should be.
