Wordpress launches 3.2 Beta 1.0

Better, faster, stronger

OPEN SOURCE WEBSITE content management system (CMS) Wordpress has released its version 3.2 Beta 1.0 for testing.

Just three months after Wordpress launched version 3.1 and a month after a slew of security fixes, its 3.2 Beta 1.0 is ready for testers to try out.

The team behind the open source CMS said the 3.2 update offers some performance enhancements and it wants beta testers to provide feedback on any bugs they come across.

"As always, this is software still in development and we don't recommend that you run it on a production site - set up a test site just to play with the new version," blogged Jane Wells at Wordpress.

"If you break it (find a bug), please report it, and if you're a developer, try to help us fix it," she added.

Wells linked to a Wordpress Codex article on how to report bugs and said the full 3.2 release date should be at the end of June. That will, of course, depend on how many beta testers sign up and offer feedback to the Wordpress developers.

Some of the improvements include the obvious. It runs faster than its predecessor, that's a given. But 3.2 has also been given an admin GUI update that's a little more than a facelift and the administration bar has more integrated links.

More significantly, the visual editor has been given a major tweak by the developers. Apparently, the full-screen composing experience has been overhauled, although the blog only mentions that it is available in HTML mode as well. There's also a new default theme and 3.2 will automatically inform users if there is a new version of their web browser out. µ
