Google throws open Storage for Developers

STARVING DEVELOPERS hankering for access to Google Storage can feast on its capacity after the firm dropped its invite-only requirement.

Google Storage for Developers was announced at Google I/O last year so it is fitting that its exclusivity was removed at this year's event. In a blog post Navneet Joneja, product manager of Google Storage for Developers said that as well as opening it up the firm is adding a number of new features that should improve its useability.

As the doors fly open so will developers be able to enjoy OAuth 2.0 support and its increased security and flexibility, easier sharing of data with other Google account holders, and the opportunity to store data in Europe, something that might appeal to more developers based there.

It has also enabled team oriented accounts, while users will also be able to stream data directly to Google Storage without having to buffer it locally. Objects of up to 5TB in size can be uploaded.

A free trial runs until the end of this year, and Google said that developers will get up to 5GB of free storage and 25Gbit/s of free bandwidth. µ
