SCO changes its name to TSG

Continues on the road to dissolution
Mon May 09 2011, 15:25

UNIX LITIGATION COMPANY SCO has changed its name to TSG as it attempts to distance itself from the mess that it has made or emerge phoenix-like from its own ashes.

In case you don't know SCO, the beguiling firm rose to public consciousness with a string of lawsuits from which it has never recovered. The new name, which was spotted by Groklaw, will be applied to the firm during its remaining bankruptcy hearings and could give it a new image, if by some miracle it avoids dissolution.

So, if public relations is behind the name change it might help, if the company survives. Having sold its assets to another firm, SCO, or TSG, might have lost the rights to brand products with the name SCO. Either way, how much success it will have with its new moniker remains to be seen.

The name TSG is already in use by a technology consulting firm in the UK, as is the domain name tsg.com. But then SCO has never been shy about staking a claim to something that doesn't belong to it. µ
