Archos announces a Windows tablet

With a trackpad, mouse buttons and Ethernet
Fri May 06 2011, 17:34

FRENCH TABLET MAKER Archos has announced a 9in Windows 7 tablet called the Archos 9, priced at around £400.

Unlike its sister tablets, the Archos 9 has Windows 7 Starter as its operating system instead of Android as is found on the Archos 101 and Archos 7. As its name suggests, it has a 9in display or, well, a 8.9in resistive LED backlit screen to be exact.

The almost Ipad sized display has 1024x600 resolution and supports HD 1080p playback. Like other Archos tablets it has a handy kickstand to prop it up in different positions.

Behind the scenes are a 1.2GHz Intel Atom processor, 1GB of RAM and a 32GB solid state disk drive. The tablet has WiFi connectivity along with Bluetooth, a USB port, a 1.3MP webcam and an Ethernet port.

Archos said the Archos 9 has a battery life of up to 5 hours and the tablet is 17mm thick and weighs 800g. If the combination of touch input and Windows puts you off then Archos has handily included an optical trackpad with left and right mouse buttons.

The tablet has stereo speakers and the USB port can be used to connect plug and play devices like hard drives and digital cameras. µ

Duh

Now we finally have a winner. You cannot combine Micr0$uck$ LoseDoze O/S with Intel processors and suck, not possible. This is the wave of the future, jump on or get washed away.

WINTEL != FAIL

NOPE NEVER WAS RELEASED BEFORE

THAT ISN'T 1080P IF IT DOESNT HAVE 1080 PIXELS.

PRICE WILL APPARENTLY BE $429.99 IN NORTH AMERICA, YUK YUK! ACCORDING TO GOOGLE "429.99 USD IN GBP" THAT'S £262.73.

YOU WOULD PAY £400 OR EVEN £350? SERIOUSLY?

IF I LIVED IN ENGLAND I WOULD REFUSE TO BE RIPPED OFF LIKE THAT. REVOLT!

A little bit older than that...

It was actually released in December 2009, I'm pretty sure that the 'new' inq even covered it with a launch press release article too. But cant expect much from good ol Inq these days.

It ain't Android, but...

Windows 7 on a tablet? You must be kidding! All those poky little buttons and menus your fingers are too big for? No sliding icon sets? What is this?

Oh, wait a minute... What happens if I use this spare PDA stylus? Hey, I can select that little menu item ... that PIXEL??? I can write on this thing. And the mini touchpad also works. Maybe some of my Windows programs will run on this. Oh, they all run on this.

Windows 7 on a tablet? On this tablet, YES! Don't forget that Windows 7 comes with tablet features, they're just not the same features as Android's, but just turn them on.
