DIPPING ITS TOE into waters where it is probably not very welcome, Microsoft is offering users some suggestions for Mothers Day presents.
Why? We do not know. It was only yesterday that the firm was telling us where to go on holiday and what laptops to buy, but today it is apparently trying to be a personal shopper.
"Still looking for that perfect, thoughtful gift for Mom this Mother's Day? Consider giving the gift of technology to help her relax and unwind on her special day, and throughout the year. The market is full of cutting-edge devices aimed at making life a little easier," said the software company.
"Whether she's obsessed with gadgets, relaxation or entertainment, there's a Windows Embedded-powered device that's perfect for her this Mother's Day."
The INQUIRER called its mother to see whether she was interested in such a delight for Mothers Day, and while she reminded us that in the UK that day was celebrated months ago, she did express interest in such a device. However there is a chance that she heard "Windows Embedded-powered device" and thought 'greenhouse'.
Meanwhile gadget-favouring mums might like a nice vacuum cleaner, according to Microsoft. "Is Mom always on the lookout for household gadgets that get the job done while saving time and effort?" it asked.
"If so, consider the Samsung NaviBot robotic vacuum cleaner, built on Windows Embedded CE 6.0, to help clean carpets and floors in a more intelligent and effective way."
We considered it. It's a no. µ

Remember the old adage:
"The day Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck is the day it makes a vacuum cleaner."
Looks like the day has come.....
Mom might like some MS shares maybe.
Or a job at nokia? They do keep firing staff
So now Microsoft believes that one can "relax and unwind" with a Windows phone ? Or with Windows 7 ?
I can do a lot with a Microsoft OS, I will acknowledge that, but when I want to relax and unwind, I read a book, or have a drink with friends.
Microsoft is a lot of things, but one thing it definitely is not is relaxing.
They are really are smoking some good stuff in those PR departments.
It won't be ANYTHING with MS involved. I think she would want something that actually works and will last more than a few months.
And no. she does not want a drill or power saw either.
