ONLINE HACKER VICTIM Sony has called in three security firms as it seeks to clean up the mess left by its recent hack attacks.
According to reports at Reuters, Sony has called up Protiviti, Guidance Software and Data Forte as its forensic clean up and network insecurity investigation team.
Reassuring news, perhaps, but it does make one wonder whether the current security team at Sony consists of one bloke and a newspaper with a slit in it.
The Sony hack attack, which might have stolen the personal details of almost 100 million people, turned the Playstation Network on its back, tickled its soft underbelly and rifled its pockets. Sony has been criticised for being slow to react, slack in its protection measures and short on information, and athough the entry of the three musketeers might be overdue, it is welcome.
Sony expects to bring the gaming service back online later this week, over two weeks since the problems started and in the same week that it shut down its SOE entertainment services.
If it takes much longer than that, the Japanese electronics, gaming and entertainment giant might as well take things right back to the drawing board and start with the security element. µ

That will teach Sony not to run internet facing systems on something as insecure as Linux...
jeanlamour, don't worry, i guess karma is getting back at sony for the many people they harmed with their irresponsible careless attitude.
Man, that has GOT to have set a record.
Should Sony be congratulated ?
And can we get the first-post/first-display order back, please ? Reading responses before the original is more than annoying.
It's time to convict these hackers and make them pay for their crimes.
the should have gone with HG Gary Federal
I played their games since 1999 and I quit in December 2010 because of my Account being stolen.
Whenever you want any information on your account changed you have to tell the SOE Representative all of your account information including credit cards used etc. Then after you have talked to them a full copy of this is stored in the accounts "Petition History". Anyone who gains access to the account is able to view this.
When my account was stolen in December 2010, whoever stole it was able to use my information stored in the peition history to keep my account. I spent over $200 on phone bills to SOE and over 5 hours trying to get my account back. I provided endless amounts of proof of who I am (the owner of the account) and they just never gave me my account back. I was told 3 times that they would return my account to me but they kept me waiting and making me call back (from another country) where they would keep me on the phone for over an hour.
They assisted a thief to steal my property!!! I spent many years creating what I had, playing many hours daily.
To top it all off, recently I tried to obtain a basic bank account for my business and I was refused 3 times... and why is that? My credit score is clean? Then I find out I have something marked on my name as Fraud because of Sony Online Entertainment and my stolen game account!!! I have over 40,000 items to be selling worldwide on eBay/Amazon and my websites and I am on hold until I can get a basic bank account. Which I cannot due to something relating to SOE allowing my account to be stolen!
When I was running a business in the past I was earning £10-£40 per day selling 1000 different products. Now that I have over 40,000 products for sale and looking to advertise worldwide rather than just on one auction site I believe the income I have lost in the last few months is quite considerable.
Even though I use to pay this company over $100 every month for many years they have caused nothing but problems for me and I will never play any of their games again.
