FORMER SONY PLAYSTATION 3 HACKER George Hotz, who uses the nym Geohot, has agreed to an Ipad 2 jailbreak challenge, according to a fellow hacker.
Iphone hacker Joshua Hill said on his Twitter account that he has challenged Hotz to "dump the Ipad 2 BootROM" before he can. Hill said Hotz accepted the challenge, and that the famous PS3 hacker "didn't have an iPad yet but he's getting one soon".
You would think Hotz had enough of taking on mighty corporations after his dealings with Sony, which filed a lawsuit against him threatening to unleash fire and brimstone after he successfully hacked the Playstation 3. This legal dustup led to Anonymous attacks against Sony, with the litigation finally ending in a settlement last month.
But before the PS3 business Hotz had been well known for jailbreaking Iphones and he appears ready to try again with the latest version of IOS, although it's surprising that somebody else hasn't managed to do it already, considering that Apple's shiny Ipad 2 has been out for some time.
But Hotz did say that there are some difficulties in jailbreaking the Ipad 2. He said in a blog post last month, "This is going to take quite a bit of reverse-engineering in order to get it to work. Apple is making it more and more difficult to jailbreak their devices."
It's unlikely that Hotz will attract the attention of Apple's lawyers, however, as although the cappuccino company doesn't like it, jailbreaking IOS isn't actually illegal, and indeed has become an accepted way of using Iphones and Ipads and playing around with programs without having to deal with the restrictions of Apple's App Store.
Hotz added, "Getting the iPad 2 jailbroken would mean that we are one step closer to jailbreak all the rest of the Apple iDevices coming this year including iPhone 5, iPod touch 5G or any new form of Apple TV they may introduce." µ

Do you know anything about apple? They are known for stealing other peoples ideas (ie. software, hardware and the like) and making them better. Hence what he is doing here. As a matter of fact I think copying and improving upon is why we have all this cool technology in the first place. "STAY HUNGRY, STAY FOOLISH"
Why dose this little cunt get away with fucking every thing up for people if i ever saw the cunt i would fuck him up the little snot drible.
is the most interesting to me, especially if you can add codecs not approved by Steve-O. I've heard you can run Linux apps on Apple Hardware if you're willing to go through the trouble of compiling them specifically for Apple. It'd be awesome if that's true for Apple TV stuff as well.
To better explain what this fight is about, Understand that Source code and Apples Operating System release is completely different. A source is NEVER and i repeat NEVER EVER NEVER released publicly. All you can access on the systems they release is a compiled and encrypted code that is a version of the source code but it is not source code. This is why it is so much harder to jailbreak because encryption methods and algorithms are becoming more and more complex. Specifically introducing the new 512, and 634 bit encryption. Regardless of the point it cannot be apples because apple would not be stupid enough to include a method to get around their encryption and other security methods with their devices. What he releases is 100% Custom Code. Not SOURCE CODE. You need to learn before you accuse boy. This guy is revolutionizing Protective Communism.
You don't even understand what "source code" is.
But he's using there source code wich he dose not own or have any rights too, if he wants to distribute his own version of said device he should right his own code from the ground up not use somebody else's work change a few lines and distribute it freely like he owns it, its theft at the end of the day if he wants to use somebody else's code he should pay them the rights to use it
Is it really necessary to resort to violence to deal with someone who is doing nothing to harm you or others, just trying to use a device he bought with his own money in a way of his choosing?
Maybe somebody should "brake" your jaw...
Source code is not free to everyone that's someone's intellectual property, he has as much right to it as I do to the the story in a book once I buy it, I can use it for my personal use but I can't change a few words and pass it off as my own. If I ever saw him I would brake his jaw
This is not Facebook. If you already know about something, good for you, but nobody else cares.
Wow old news, this story broke like 5 days ago. Waste of time. Try publishing something of meaning
I'm happy about this, the day Playstation got hacked I posted on Facebook saying "watch out Jobs, you're next". This is good news.
I think it is also important to raise awareness regarding Apple's scams and abuses related to mobile application and digital entertainment markets, their strategy to destroy the web by pushing HTML5 (which they do not truly support and implement themselves) in order to kick users out of the web into Apple's walled garden taxed at 30% is outrageous! Apple's ban of Flash is not acceptable, turning consumers and developers into collateral damages in a corporate war is not acceptable.
I invite you to read my email sent to Steve Jobs this week in response to his "Thought on Flash" posted on Apple's website last year:

So, when did Hotz became a barista
If I recall correctly the changes last year to the DMCA ruled that jailbreaking iPhones and other handsets was legal. This ruling did NOT cover tablet computers as well.
For what it's worth I currently have 5 jailbroken iDevices in my house, so I am not posting this because I am against jailbreaking. I just want people to have accurate information when making their decision to jailbreak or not.
