TABLET MAKER Viewsonic has announced an operating system update for its Viewpad 10 tablet to Google's Android 2.2 Froyo.
The Viewpad 10 was previously running Android 1.6 and will now ship with Android 2.2 if you buy it new from a retailer. If you already have a Viewpad 10 then stop before you go to check for updates over the air because you have to update the device manually.
The details Viewsonic has released on updating the dual boot tablet say that you need to download a 289MB ISO file and create a bootable USB drive using a downloadable application. You then insert the USB drive into your Viewpad 10 to install the update.
The instructions also say that you need to insert a USB keyboard to the Viewpad and make sure the power is connected.
The Viewpad 10 has not only Android as its operating system but Windows 7 too. It has a 1.66GHz processor and 2GB of RAM. It has a 10.1-in display.
Unfortunately this upgrade is unlikely to attract new customers, since a host of tablets are tipping up on the market with Android 3.0 Honeycomb, which is specially designed for tablets. µ
Pre-orders to begin on 9 September with release to follow on 16 September
