BOWING TO CUSTOMER FEEDBACK apparently, Oracle has updated SQL Developer, taking it up to version 3.0 and improving its features, tools and ease of migration.
The firm said that the release improves all of these things, while adding support for its data mining and modelling tools, called Oracle Data Miner and, more creatively, Oracle Spatial.
"Leveraging the mass popularity of Oracle SQL Developer, we are releasing our new Oracle Data Miner 11g Release 2," said Cetin Ozbutun, VP of Data Warehouse at Oracle.
"With Oracle Data Mining, the data, models and predictive analytics never leave the database enabling significantly more functionality, security, performance and scalability at a lower total cost of ownership."
Oracle expects the update to appeal to a wider audience, so perhaps the box has a picture of Justin Bieber on it. Or perhaps it hopes the software features will attract customers.
Oracle said that it is lightweight to use and includes usability features that should speed up and improve productivity among developers at all skill levels.
The database giant also added automation features and scanning of source code for Sybase ctlib/dblib APIs and a database navigator for finding, fixing and configuring storage files as well as user roles and security profiles.
Other features include a graphical scheduler for creating, managing and planning programs as well as jobs and other associated objects, and an SQL Tuning advisor for checking high volume SQL statements. The Advisor also recommends suitable fixes for any discovered problems.
Query Builder, again, has an emphasis on being easy to use, and it has a drag and drop interface for building queries.
Oracle SQL Developer runs on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. It is available to download now. µ
