Dell launches its Streak 7 tablet in the UK

It runs Android 2.2 Froyo

TIN BOX FLOGGER Dell has launched its Streak 7 tablet in Blighty.

The 7-inch tablet is built around a 800x400 touchscreen that is made of toughened Gorilla Glass and is designed for heavy duty use.

Dell has decided to opt for Nvidia's dual-core 1GHz Tegra 2 chip, and the Streak 7 supports Flash and the base unit comes with 16GB of internal storage. There will also be an embedded 3G plus WiFi version later this year.

The Streak 7 first tipped up unannounced at Oracle Openworld 2010 during one of Michael Dell's presentations, where the demo slides showed it running Android 2.2 Froyo. But despite a seven month gap, Dell has stuck to Android 2.2 Froyo for its 7-inch tablet, so it won't get the benefits of Near Field Communication that Android 2.3 Gingerbread adds.

Dell bundled its own Dell Stage user interface for media and app management. The company also claimed it will add syncing capabilities to Stage to share entertainment data, providing you have other Dell kit to sync to, that is. There's also a 5MP rear-facing camera for higher quality snaps and a lower resolution 1.3MP front-facing camera that can by used for video chats.

The Streak 7 is out now, starting at £299 from Dell for the vanilla flavour. You'll have to wait until spring for the updated and slightly more interesting 3G and WiFi version. µ

According to Google, Froyo is not for tablets.

Buy this and you will have a big phone.
