SOFTWARE HOUSE Google has added pagination to the latest version of Google Docs, its web-based word processing rival to Microsoft Word.
The update makes use of capabilities Google added to its Chrome web browser that allow users to display documents in multiple page format, making large files much easier to read. It also makes it easier for writers to view how a finished document will look when printed out.
The feature is accessible from the View menu, where two options are available: paginated and compact. Compact is the standard web view that shows an endless scrolling page and is more suitable for web design than for writing documents.
Other features in Google Docs have improved as a result of pagination. For example, headers and footers now display at the top and bottom of every page instead of at the top and bottom of the entire document. Manual page breaks can also be used to push text down onto a new page.
The update also adds native printing support to Google Docs when accessed from the Chrome web browser. Google hopes other web browsers will add this feature by adopting the same web standard. µ
