WEB BROWSER MAKER Opera Software has announced that its mobile browser Opera Mini has 100 million monthly users.

It was only two months ago that Opera Mini and Opera Mobile achieved a combined monthly user total of 100 million, but now the former has reached that figure on its own.

The browser has been gaining popularity on handheld devices, according to the firm, and has doubled from its 50 million monthly users in February of 2010. As well as this, it has gainied an extra 11 million users in the space of a single month - between February and March of this year.

If that's not enough, Opera Mini also boasts two billion daily page views, double the amount recorded in July of last year.

Opera faces stiff competition among the desktop web browsers, where it faces heavy opposition from Google's Chrome, Mozilla's Firefox and Microsoft's Internet Explorer.

However, it shines in the mobile market, where according to Statcounter the Opera Mini browser holds a majority 20 plus per cent share of the user market.

Lars Boilesen, CEO of Opera, captured the delight of the company quite eloquently - "Sweeeet!" µ

I tried it on my Blackberry but Bolt is so much faster and easier to use.

For my desktop however I'm with ya Scot. Opera Barracuda is awesome.

Meh

I've been a loyal Opera desktop user from the beginning. Mini runs like a dog on my iPhone 4. I wish it didn't.
