DEVELOPERS have cracked the latest version of Apple's IOS, allowing users to load applications from third party sources.
Apple's IOS 4.3.1 was released shortly after the firm launched the Ipad 2 and it didn't take long for the clever chaps at the Iphone Dev Team to work out how to jailbreak IOS 4.3.1. The untethered Pwnagetool jailbreak works for all devices that support IOS 4.3.1 except the Ipad 2.
The Iphone Dev Team says the reason why the Ipad 2 is still locked down is because the jailbreak requires a boot ROM exploit that is not present in the Ipad 2. That said, it would be extremely surprising if the talented Iphone Dev Team doesn't manage to release an untethered jailbreak for the Ipad 2 one way or another in the near future.
Aside from Ipad 2 users, the Iphone Dev Team warns ultrasn0w users not to update to IOS 4.3.1. The Dev Team says that it needs to release an update to ultrasn0w to fix "some incompatibilities" when IOS 4.3.1 is used on basebands that are supported by ultrasn0w.
Jailbreaking IOS has become synonymous with Iphones and Ipads. The ability to install applications that are not allowed on Apple's App Store greatly increases the functionality potential of the shiny toy maker's IOS devices.
Expect Apple to issue an IOS update that tries to close down the Dev Team's latest efforts soon. µ
