SHORTER 12-MONTH CONTRACTS are now available to existing O2 pay monthly users, and for the first time Internet tethering is included as part of your data allowance for no extra charge.
As O2 outlined in a blog post, it now has 12-month contracts available in response to customer demand. But if you are thinking of picking up the Iphone 5 or a hot new Android smartphone without being tied down for more than a year, you'll need to be with O2 already and looking to get a new phone as an upgrade.
Internet tethering is now included by O2 as part of your data allowance. Previously you needed to sign up for a £7.65 bolt-on, and considering the £35-odd monthly cost for a hot new smartphone that was step too far in cost to make it worthwhile.
The Iphone is Internet tethering capable, while Android has had native tethering support since version 2.2 Froyo. You might consider it as a very useful option if you're stuck without WiFi or a 3G dongle, though you'll obviously need to keep an eye on how much data you're using each month.
Unfortunately it appears that unless you sign up for a new contract you won't be able to get the free Internet tethering, as it's not available in an existing data allowance if you are already signed up. This is a bit cheeky, as it's an obvious ploy to get you to sign up for another year, particularly as its not available on pay as you go.
Like many decent-looking mobile phone deals, there's generally a catch in there, and these new O2 tariffs are apparently no different. µ
sad in my o2.
ive only got 500mb memory
how to get free more int allowance???
I also tried to enable tethering as an existing O2 client for the past 4 years and was told it was not possible unless I sign a new deal - WTF.
I bought my iPhone cash from Apple and pay nearly £20 for the 600 minute a month rolling contract with unlimited data but O2 don't give a hoot about me and this makes my blood boil.
Simplicity my donkey.. looking at switching to the three network - only problem is the annoying Indian call centres.
Go through the terms and conditions of tethering on their site and you'll find that you are required to disconnect your PC/Laptop or turn tethering OFF on your mobile if you wish to use wifi on your mobile. In other words you are not allowed to do the very thing that you acquired the tethering bolt on to do. Looks like your best bet will be to switch to 3 with its genuine unlimited data download. And no I don't work for them or have any connection other than my 15Gb per month sim for my iPad. My O2 iPhone contract on my 3GS expires in two months. It won't be renewed.
well, according to o2 we're both wrong. that was exactly the message I tried to get through to the CS agent and all I was getting in return was:
i'm sorry, we can't enable tethering on your current plan. if you wish to tether you either need to change your plan to one of the new ones or buy addition data bolt-on.
If you already have a phone contract with data allowance why do you need another contract to tether? I was under the impression that the point of tethering is so your other wi-fi device uses the internet supplied to your phone already. Am I wrong?
just spent 25 mins on the chat with one of the o2 cs agents.
long story short:
I have o2 40 iPhone plan which gives me 500MB of data, 600 mins and discounted calling abroad.
If I want tethering i have to either buy a bolt on or change to different package which is actually more expensive than the one i'm currently on.
what's the point? screw you o2! screw you sideways!
