Spotify to feature on Onkyo home cinema receivers

Partnership sees Spotify expand to new audience
Tue Mar 29 2011, 10:32

ONLINE MUSIC SERVICE Spotify has announced that its client will be available on home cinema receivers, thanks to a partnership with home cinema equipment firm Onkyo.

Spotify will be available on all of the 2011 models of Onkyo's home cinema products, including the TX-NR609, an update to the highly successful TX-SR608. There is no word on the possibility of using Spotify on older models.

The partnership between the two firms means that users can buy and play music on their TV, once it is connected to an Onkyo home cinema receiver and has an Internet connection. A premium subscription to Spotify will also be required.

Spotify clients are already available in some digital TV boxes, but often they lack the full range of features that Spotify has to offer, such as playlists, search, starred, and "what's new". The client available on Onkyo home cinema receivers will be as close as possible to what users experience on their computer. µ

I would be a lot happier if they got it working on the other fruit themed device, aka blackberry first!
