SOMALIA IT ISN'T but the United States is still considering sanctions over what it is calling 'piracy' because Uncle Sam feels China isn't doing enough about copyright infringement.
Reuters reports that the US government is considering the use of sanctions against China, over the way that it restricts access to films, books and music.
Some sort of agreement had been reached between the two parties but the US is apparently unhappy with the way that China has implemented its part. While China said that it is doing just fine, the US disagreed.
"The United States is troubled by the lack of any apparent progress by China in bringing its measures relating to films for theatrical release into compliance," it said in a statement referring to a ruling from the World Trade Organisation that was supposed to come into effect on 19 March.
The statement went on to explain that there are "concerns about the incomplete progress" of China's anti-copyright infringement measures relating to "audio visual home entertainment products, reading materials and sound recordings." Clearly the Hollywood lobby has been knocking on US President Barack Obama's door.
This perceived foot dragging is why the US government might want to become more heavy-handed, Reuters speculated. µ

China does own most of the U.S. one way or the other. The good news is that if the U.S. stop importing Chinese crap they could create tens of thousands of U.S. jobs producing quality products that were once made in the U.S. and shipped off to China so the CEOs of Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Home Depot, etc. could get larger multi-million dollar annual bonuses.
So yes it would be very smart of the U.S. to stop importing everything from China and produce it in the USA, even dumbass Iphones for the clueless.
I'd actually like to see you do that. It'll be funny to see how fast you take to the streets to reverse the decision when you suddenly notice that you're naked, starving and can't replace your Iphone anymore.
Oh, and in case you didn't know, China practically owns you - where do you think the US has most of its enormous debt ? You do know about your debt ?
So this whole thing is a storm in a teacup that will blow over as soon as the Chinese government sends a little invoice reminder to the White House.
Still, nice to see the MAFIAA at least pretending to not sue grandmas and little tykes anymore.
Buying Chinese products just eliminates jobs in the U.S., Europe and elsewhere.
As far as Chinese piracy goes, fine the pirates $10K per copy just like in the U.S. If the Chinese government won't prosecute the pirates then stop all imports from China to the U.S. I guarantee the Chinese will be hanging pirates on the six o'clock news for the world to see, which would be funny and effective.
Human rights violations? No problem! Rampant industrial pollution? Whatever. Video and music piracy? Now hold on a darn minute!
Glad to know US priorities are as clear as every.
I, too, would like to see the iPad cost US$6000 at the retail outlets, but sadly, I fear my new motherboard would cost $600, instead of the $60 I am accustomed to paying.
The reality is that i's difficult to find products that are *not* made in China. The further reality is that copyright infringement within China probably does very little to hurt Hollywood (MPAA) and the RIAA, since most Chinese don't make enough money to pay $50 to get the family into a theatre to see the latest crapfest starring Me Gibson and Sly Stallone.
and chips for everybody's equipment enabling them to control what people watch or hear.
Good old Big Brother.
They can keep their brainwashing movies for them.
The U.S. should impose a 1000% import duty on all products from China regardless of what China does regarding piracy. The only good pirate is a dead pirate.
The US government is now handling civil dispute matters for the movie industry, cannot believe that congress lets this happen, there is no crime it is not theft, the western governments are being controlled by corporate interests they no longer support their people instead they exist only for corporate greed, wake up people it's time to force a change it's working in Egypt!!!!
