Apple's Ipad 2 is out of stock in UK after launch

Component shortage might be true

TOY MAKER Apple's shiny Ipad 2 is out of stock across the UK within days of launch with no word when more will arrive.

The INQUIRER can find no Ipad 2 tablets for sale anywhere. Both of Apple's major stores on Regent Street and in Covent Garden in London told us that they had no Ipad 2 devices left in stock and no idea when they will get more.

On Friday The INQUIRER was told that the white 16GB WiFi only model was sold out shortly after the 5pm grand opening. So the news that the stock is completely gone comes as little surprise.

Apple was unavailable to comment on the situation. It might be that the shortage have been due to a possible supply problem stemming from the disaster in Japan, although those events were so close to the launch that one would think that Apple would have had more stock than it appears it did.

After hundreds of people queued for hours to get their hands on the latest tablet from Apple, its stores ran out of stock some time on Saturday. Those with the clever idea of buying two and selling one should find themselves making a nice profit due to the lack of available stock and high demand for the device.

Online orders are being taken but with a dispatch estimate of 3-4 weeks. So if you haven't got an Ipad 2 yet and want to get hold of one, you could be in for a long wait or find yourself paying over the odds at Ebay or somewhere similar. A 64GB WiFi only Ipad 2 is selling for around £730 on Ebay, not including delivery.

We've pitted the Ipad 2 against the original version, so take a look to see what so different about it compared to Apple's first tablet. µ

Not true

Just visited the Apple store in the Westfield, central London, and the iPad 2 is very definitely in stock. They also get new ones "pretty much every day" according to the Sales rep. Getting there early does the trick.

Component shortage

might be true. Artificial scarcity might be true.
