Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 gets thinner and lighter

ELECTRONICS FIRM Samsung has today announced its redesigned Galaxy Tab 10.1 which is 2.3mm thinner than the first version.

Samsung's Galaxy 10.1 is the daddy of its tablet family with a, you've guessed it, 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800. The redesign is predominantly in the tablet's thickness reducing it down by 2.3mm from 10.9 to 8.6.Its fruit themed rival, the Ipad2, is not only thicker by 0.2mm but also heavier by 6g with the Galaxy weighing in at 595g.

The specifications are identical to those of its smaller sized brother, the Galaxy 8.9-inch tablet, which Samsung announced today. It too will have a 1GHz dual core processor and Google's tablet-optimised operating system, Android 3.0 Honeycomb. It will come in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB options and will have WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth, USB 2.0, a rear facing 3MP camera with flash and a 2MP front facing camera.

Samsung has said the original, fatter, version of the Galaxy 10.1 will still go on sale and is available for pre-order from clove.co.uk for £600. Perhaps opting for the slighter, thicker and heavier model will save you a few quid. µ
