KOREAN CONGLOMERATE Samsung has announced its Galaxy Tab 8.9-inch tablet, which is apparently the world's thinnest tablet at 8.6mm.
At 8.6mm thin the Galaxy 8.9-inch tablet outdoes Apple's Ipad 2, which is 8.8mm thick by 0.2mm, making it the world's thinnest tablet. You can probably guess from the name that the newest addition to the Galaxy Tab range has a mid sized WXGA TFT LCD screen at 8.9-inch with 1200x800 rsolution, a little larger than that of Samsung's first tablet, which has a 7-inch display. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9-inch tablet weighs 470g.

The Galaxy Tab 8.9-inch tablet will have a 1GHz dual core processor and Google's tablet-optimised operating system, Android 3.0 Honeycomb. The device will be available with three different storage options, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. It will come with WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth, USB 2.0, a rear facing 3MP camera with flash and a 2MP front facing camera.
Support for Flash 10.2 will be included and the device will come pre-loaded with Samsung's Readers Hub and Music Hub, giving users access to millions of books, newspapers, magazines and songs.
Much to our surprise, Samsung has said it doesn't know when the tablet will be available in the UK or how much it will cost. Samsung also announced today a refreshed design of its largest tablet, the Galaxy Tab 10.1. µ

I was just getting into this. The term "vapourware" may have been coined for Microsoft Windows 1.0, which was announced when other GUIs were already on sale or about to arrive - MacOS, VisiCorp VisiOn, DR GEM - and Windows was promised to arrive about six months in the future, but it actually came out about a year later than that. Sound familiar?
This device may not arrive in this country, but that's a different question. Many don't. Such decisions are made for economic reasons - but the device will exist. But maybe not in a model that works in English...
