Whopping price is unchanged

THE MASSIVE Asus 12.1-inch Eee Slate EP121 tablet has turned up for pre-order from Amazon.co.uk with an arrival date of 10 April, and will cost you a penny short of a grand.

The release date on Amazon means the tablet has been slightly delayed, with Asus having said it would go on sale in the first quarter of this year. This monster of a tablet not only has a 12.1-inch LED backlit multi-touch 1280x800 resolution LCD touchscreen but a speedy 1.86GHz Intel Core i5 processor and massive 4GB of DDR3 RAM.

It is the only one of Asus' tablets to run Windows 7 as its operating system, in this case Home Premium 64-bit, it comes with a 64GB SSD data storage drive and yes, you heard right the first time, it will cost you a massive £999.99 ($1,630.16). This somewhat colossal price tag does include a digitiser pen - a stylus to you and me - plus a folio case and a Bluetooth keyboard.

The Asus 12.1-inch tablet also comes with WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, a 2MP webcam, a mini HDMI port, two USB 2.0 ports and a 2-in-1 card reader. For a better idea of what this big Windows 7 tablet is like, check out our first impressions. µ

Although £1000 seems steep at first (it's selling for £860) on amazon.de) 20% of that is VAT ;)

The specs are awesome on a slate device and the digitizer isn't usually a cheap option. Personally I want a slate that is a replacement for my laptop which the Asus achieves.

not that bad

I have a Sony laptop about the same spec, with the it running full tilt encoding 720p from premiere pro cs5, I get about 90mins from the battery. It cost about £500. A grand is a little steep but included is the SSD & LED multitouch screen so I'd expect it to be more than my lappy... maybe £750 region.
