STORAGE VENDOR Lacie has announced the launch of its mobile online storage application called Wuala.

The service is available for Iphone and Ipod Touch users from the Apple App Store and will be offered for Android users in the future, according to Lacie. It is a way for smartphone users to store, browse and access files and data online with the option to make files available offline.

Wuala uses client-side encryption so that data is encrypted before it is uploaded and passwords never leave the device. You can access the stored data using any computer that is online and with the sync feature you can organise the data between devices.

1GB of storage is free which includes basic features such as universal access, streaming and privacy. After that there is a range of package options ranging from 10GB for €19 per year up to 250GB for €229 per year. The paid for packages include extra features, backup and sync.

In addition to buying space you can also trade idle storage on your computer for online storage. How much storage you get depends on how long you are online. µ
