WEB BROWSER FIRM Opera has reacted quickly to an offensive image posted on its community pages.
The INQUIRER's grandmother almost choked on her boiled sweet when, upon visiting the Opera website she was greeted with the image of a naked woman sat next to a wolfish dog, as well as some other more savoury images and news articles.
The image, apparently part of a user's online signature, was so shocking that the INQUIRER could only reel back in horror from it, take a screen grab and share it with a few friends before asking for some sort of explanation from the web browser developer.
The response was not slow in coming.
Aleksander - no surname - a community editor in the Opera team, said that My Opera did not let any kind of sexual content appear in its webpages, a fact that is stated clearly in its terms and conditions.
"However," he added, "just like most content sharing and blog platforms My Opera moderation happens after the user has submitted content. Sometimes the result is a topless women next to a wolf, in certain rare cases there isn't even a wolf there."
This is indeed one of those cases. Currently the offending image is not being displayed on the website. However, there is a rather charmless picture of a man with long hair flipping the reader the bird.
The INQUIRER considered notifying its new contact at Opera with this more recent finding, but soon realised that searching for wolves, topless ladies, or indeed 'naked wolves' amongst the images put up by its many registered users must be beyond the firm.
"We do our best to remove any sexual content found on My Opera when we detect it. However we need to know when or where this is posted. The Explore section on My Opera shows profile pictures of the recently logged in images, and I'm pretty sure this is where the naked wolf appeared," he added.
"I'm currently unable to find this user among our 6.5 million members, but if you ever notice something like that please click the image and use the report function found on all user profiles on My Opera." µ

You know, since it might be a minor.
But, really, that "wolf" could easily be a dog, which it probably is.
use service like tineye.com to find the image.
