Vodafone takes down hacked blog posts alleging tax dodging

Not quite what make a difference meant

UK MOBILE NETWORK Vodafone's website has been hacked and blog postings alleging UK tax evasion by the company were posted briefly before they were taken down.

The telecom network operator took down the posts placed on its "Meet the Winners" blog and told The INQUIRER that it does not know how they were posted.

However the UK Uncut campaign that claims to have made the postings has said that some of Vodafone's own winners gave them the passwords to access the blog website.

UK Uncut quotes one unnamed alleged password leaking Winner as saying, "Vodafone make a big deal out of their funding to charity, but their charitable giving pales into insignificance compared to the £6 billion they got away without paying in tax. I work for a charity and understand how the government's brutal spending cuts will hit the poorest and most vulnerable."

"Meet the Winners" is part of Vodafone's website that highlights people that have worked for charity under the company's "Make a Difference" programme. It gives 500 people the chance to work for a UK-based charity of their choice for two months, and get paid for their time.

Vodafone's statement about the hack said, "We've seen a couple of posts on World of Difference winners' blogs relating to allegations of tax avoidance. Given these are incorrect, they have been removed." µ
