TOY MAKER FOR THE WELL HEELED Apple has released IOS 4.3, the latest version of its operating system for Iphones and Ipads.
Apple's master of ceremonies and CEO, Steve Jobs showed off IOS 4.3 last week when he revealed the Ipad 2. While the Ipad 2 is still being shipped to US stores in preparation for its launch later this week, Apple has released IOS 4.3 for the Iphone 3GS, Iphone 4 and Ipad. The Ipad 2 will come with IOS 4.3 preloaded.
For those devices supported by IOS 4.3, the biggest change is the ability to create a personal hotspot, but only if you have an Iphone 4 on a call tariff that allows tethering. IOS 4.3 supports five devices connecting to the Iphone 4, although Apple says it can be any combination of five, including up to three WiFi, three Bluetooth and one USB connection. A similar personal hotspot feature without Apple's restrictions has been available on Android since May 2010.
Apple has also updated its Safari web browser with the Nitro Javascript engine and added features to its floundering music oriented social notworking website, Ping. Users can now get push notifications from Ping and parental controls have also been introduced.
For Ipad users, IOS 4.3 allows them to use what the firm calls its Digital AV Adaptor, or the latest in a very long line of dongles sold by Apple. It will enable the Ipad and Ipad 2 to output HD 720p video from enabled applications including Videos, Keynote, Iphoto, Youtube and Safari. Third party applications have the ability to output video to an external screen, though developers have to enable it.
Apple has also stuck a bunch of security fixes into IOS 4.3. Safari got the brunt of the security updates with changes to its Webkit engine.
Users can update to IOS 4.3 through Itunes now, though as is customary there is already a beta jailbreaking tool, with a final release expected soon. µ

But I wish Apple may be coming with new iPad devise, may be it iPad 3 and iPad 4. So just wait..........
"A similar personal hotspot feature without Apple's restrictions has been available" even beofe iphone and android came out in windows mobile devices. As far as i can tell since winmo 2003.
So what is so new and revolutionary about this nextgen mibile operating system that do the same things?
I swear just code drivers and put an xgl layer on top of the old linux and winmo OS's.
Good article, not bitter at all - Ping is floundering. Plus, Apple products are generally on the expensive side so I've no objection to the "well-heeled" line - it's a joke. The Inquirer of late have produced much more objective articles about Apple and should be given credit for the change. Keep up the good work.
Honestly, what a bitter sounding article. Just accept that some people like Apple products. We're not all rich or stupid. We just like well-designed, functional products that don't require an advanced degree in nerdery to understand. Why does that make you so angry? Can't you afford them??
This is a great article. Good summary. I have an iPhone 3GS and hope that in Australia we can tether/hotspot soon. iPad is a good tablet @Diner however it is too controlled and closed environment by Apple. That is why Android will take market share http://jonathonsciola.com Thank you.
