Swedes arrest a filesharer

'Anti-piracy' group claims it had a hand

A SWEDISH 'ANTI-PIRACY' GROUP has claimed it played a part in the arrest of a filesharer.

The man has been called a big catch by moral crusaders at the so-called 'anti-piracy' group, Antipiratbyrån. The group also alleged that it tipped off the Swedish police during their investigation.

The man in his thirties was tracked by a specialist division of the Swedish police designed to track down people who share entertainment content. But Antipiratbyrån boasted that it was its own information that netted the man.

Swedish newspaper Arbetarbladet reported the arrest, but our Swedish is not so hot so here it is as translated.

"The suspect, the man responsible for multiple servers with 8,300 films and TV shows and games. A variety of computers have been seized."

The man was arrested but released and has since denied all of the charges laid against him.

Antipiratbyrån was wildly throwing its hands in the air, proclaiming the man was actually one of Sweden'as top filesharers and a big player on the warez scene. He allegedly gave up to 100 people access to the 7,000 movies on his servers but they in turn copied and shared the content with other filesharers.

"In this case, a large number of films has been associated with a particular Bittorrent users," said Antipiratbyrån head Henrik Pontén.

"It is as far as we know, the world's first police action against an individual Bittorrent users," he added.

Pontén went to say that Antipiratbyrån has the technology to track down filesharers and intends to prosecute content sharers in a similar manner again. µ

Not *that* Swedish.

@Steve-O: The only movies with Swedish audio are those that have it by default.
Only movies aimed at children are habitually dubbed to Swedish, otherwise the norm in Sweden is to leave the original audio, no matter the language.
Swedish subtitles are added though.

Boris is right. Lock them up!

@Boris - I agree. Those social scumbag criminals calling themselves "AntipiratbyrÄn" should certainly be prosecuted for grave violations of privacy, unauthorized Internet wiretappping, and general mopery, and incarcerated for the next several decades.

Any piracy conviction is good

The more of these social scumbag criminals they prosecute and incarcerate, the better. Keep up the good work.

Police Action?

" 'It is as far as we know, the world's first police action against an individual Bittorrent users,' he added."

WTF is this? The only other "police action" I ever heard of was describing the Korean "War" back in the 50's.

Do these tards have nothing better to do than compare sharing crap movies (in Swedish audio nonetheless, who can understand those?) with over a million deaths?

Police Action - In military/security studies and international relations is a euphemism for a military action undertaken without a formal declaration of war.
