Nintendo Wiis are gathering dust

Survey finds that users have put down their nunchucks

PITY THE POOR Nintendo Wii. A survey has found that despite it being fun at the start the initial rush has worn off and users are looking for harder, faster experiences.

Discount-linking site Myvouchercodes.co.uk inexplicably asked its members when they last picked up their nunchucks and shimmied and shook Mario across their television screens, and it found that around half had not been anywhere near the console in the last six months. Or if you prefer, just before and ever since the Xbox Kinect and Sony Move alternatives were released.

It found that 48 per cent of respondents admitted that the last six months had seen the household Wii turn from being a fun gadget into just something else that needs dusting and 33 per cent said that they felt that the novelty of the device had worn off.

Just 14 per cent of people said that they had played the Wii in the last week, while 23 per cent claimed to have played in the last four month. Popular reasons for the lack of Wii-related activity include lack of leisure time and, perhaps most significantly, an investment in a rival platform.

Mark Pearson, chairman of MyvoucherCodes.co.uk, said, "The Wii really was a novelty when it first came out, but following the release of new motion controlled gaming platforms it appears that people have lost enthusiasm for the console."

He concluded, "It's quite surprising to see that over half of people who own a Wii haven't used it in the past six months or more; but realistically, it's simply another example of the latest technology starting to become outdated."

Nintendo's Wii is still popular amongst lounge-based yoga fanatics, according to the survey, and 40 per cent of people who had played in the last month said that they had played Wii Fit. µ

They have made their money already

They don't care, they have funded the next development already.

I won one on the day of release, wasted money on a Wii Fit, rubbish; thrashed through Mario Kart and laughed at Wii Sports but baulk at the price of Mario Galaxy. It was played for a few hours recently, not by me, not sure where it is now which says it all.
Lack of games, expensive games and accessories, my 360 is better and so it is a pretty dust collector.

No games needed

As it is i've 2 Wii controllers and use them for music and video generation i dont need games. I dont even own a Wii console.
Together with Osculator program on a mac they can control software and hardware like audio and video kaosspadsand or regular synths.
Great fun guaranteed with a good chance something beautiful comes out.
So it's time for the next step forward.

No Games

I think the main factor is that there hasn't been any big games for the Wii in the past 6 months. That is why mine has sat dormant.

Wiis numbers got skewed

by the number of Grandmothers buying it so they could bowl.

I still Mario Kart and Dr. Mario online all the time. Hasn't lost its charm one bit.
