STORAGE VENDOR Buffalo Technology has announced its launch of the refreshed Terastation family of network attached storage (NAS) products in the UK.
Equipped with the Intel Atom D510 dual core processor, the family consists of the Terastation Duo, 4 bay, 6 bay and 8 bay models. The refreshed Terastations' new features include two USB 3.0 ports as well as two 2.0 USB ports.
The Terastation Duo is a two bay, two drive NAS device that supports USB 3.0, Raid 0/1 and has capacities up to 4TB. The Terastation 4 bay supports RAID 0/1/5/6/10 and USB 3.0. It is available in capacities of up to 12TB as either a desktop model or a 1U rackmount chassis.
The Terastation 6 bay also supports USB 3.0, ships in RAID 6 and will be available in April 2011. The Terastation 8 bay unsurprisingly has eight populated bays of storage shipping in RAID 6 with support for RAID 0/1/5/10 modes as well. The Terastation 8 will be available "in the Spring" according to Buffalo, which might be April but could be later, we assume.
All of the Terastations incorporate "active directory support," which Buffalo says "simplifies the management of data" and a schedule power management system that comes with the claim that users can "reduce CO2 emissions by up to 66 per cent".
The Terastations can also be accessed remotely from anywhere in the world, in real time, via a PC, Mac, Iphone or Android handset. µ
