TABLET MAKER Motorola's WiFi only Xoom tablet can be pre-ordered now from currys.co.uk, pcworld.co.uk, dixons.co.uk and pixmania.com, with a price of £499 but a slightly dodgy delivery date.
The pre-order webpage at PC World says that the tablet will be released in the first week of April but that is to be confirmed while the same page states that delivery is available for 9 April.
The Xoom has Google's Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system and a 1GHz processor. It supports Adobe Flash and Air, has a widescreen 10.1-inch HD 720p capable display with 1280x800 resolution, an HDMI output port, a 5MP rear-facing camera for HD 720p video capture and a 2MP front-facing camera for video calls.
Jeremy Fennell, category director at Dixons Retail said, "We are delighted to be able to offer our customers the chance to order this excellent product; ensuring they are first to get their hands on the product when it arrives in the UK later in the spring."
However an apparent inadvertent leak on a German Amazon website suggests that on 17 March, a 3G capable 16GB 9.7-inch display and 1.2GHz processor powered Ipad 2 will be on sale, possibly offering a better deal than the Motorola Xoom. µ
Overall the specs look pretty good, but I'm a little surprised that Motorola only gave the Xoom a 5MP camera. The HTC Evo phone which came out about a year ago has an 8MP camera.
