Gordon Brown blocked Steve Jobs knighthood

Prime ministerial beef held back honourary award
Tue Mar 01 2011, 15:03

FORMER BRITISH PRIME MINISTER Gordon Brown blocked plans to give Steve Jobs an honourary knighthood because the Apple CEO once turned down an invitation to speak at a Labour party event.

According to a report in the Telegraph newspaper that quotes a former senior Labour MP, the soft-faced and usually jovial Gordon Brown nixed plans to add to Steve Jobs' ego with an honourary knighthood despite IBM's Lou Gerstner, Microsoft's Bill Gates and Bono of U2 having been so honoured in the past.

Apparently this former senior Labour MP was the one who proposed Jobs for the touch of the sword for his services to technology.

The former MP, who left Parliament at the last election according to the Telegraph, bemoaned Brown's intercession and said, "Apple has been the only major global company to create stunning consumer products because it has always taken design as the key component of everything it has produced. No other CEO has consistently shown such a commitment."

The Telegraph added that Gordon Brown waited until the proposal reached the final stages before blocking it. And anyone who says that sounds a lot like Apple's App Store software approval behaviour must be sucking on sour grapes. µ

How about a commercial

that says,"I'm a PC," "And I'm also a PC," since they run on the same frickin hardware?

It's damn annoying that people think there's a difference between a Mac and a PC. It's like saying there's a difference between bottled water and tap water, it's just people being stupid.

British hypocrits

The British let Pinochet get medical treatment and have atomic missiles on Diego Garcia, an island they have occupied and then forcible removed the habitants from even though they lost in their own high court, they just did not care. They are worse than China in Tibet if you ask me so I do not really care about BLA (British Laughable Awards).
There is a place for people like that it is called HELL.

Gordon Brown

Gordon Brown only blocked the Honourary Knighthood because he knew it would be a demotion from the sainthood Steve already enjoys. Beatification is a more appropriate honour.

he's a PC

any chance of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown starring in one of those "I'm a Mac, and I'm a PC adverts"?

Standards

Bill Gates is somewhat understandable as a candidate for this honour, Windows is ubiquitous not only in the UK, and he has become one of the biggest philanthropists in the world.

Apple products don't directly benefit the UK economy and how much money has Steve given away?

Good one

This is the greatest thing anyone has ever done to preserve this vestigial honor.
