HTC Desire and Incredible phones will get Gingerbread updates

More gingerbread to go around
Mon Feb 28 2011, 15:34

PHONE MAKER HTC has confirmed that the latest batch of Gingerbread updates for its smartphones will be coming in the second quarter via downloads for all of its Desire models and its Incredible S.

The smartphones included in the list to receive Android 2.3 Gingerbread are the Desire, Desire HD, Desire Z and Incredible S. This will be welcome news for Desire owners, which is a handset that's getting quickly outdated with many newer versions available.

Owners of the Incredible S, which was the only smartphone HTC launched at Mobile World Congress, will also be pleased as the device disappointingly shipped with Android 2.2 Froyo.

Google claims the update to Gingerbread will bring users a faster, more refined and responsive interface. Additions include near field communication, which effectively turns your phone into a credit card, Internet calling using voice over Internet protocol technology, a new soft keyboard with a text selection tool, gyroscope sensor support and improved copy and paste functions. µ
