Murdoch's The Daily will turn up on Android tablets

Print is dead, long live the tablet
Thu Feb 24 2011, 11:04

RIGHT WING MEDIA MOGUL Rupert Murdoch will be able to make his 'news' content available on your Android tablets with the release of The Daily on Google's mobile operating system.

So far Murdoch has professed his love for the Ipad, Apple and all things subscription based, mainly because it's a way he can make more money out of making people pay for news again.

But his eyes must have lit up when he saw Android 3.0 Honeycomb, the operating system that Google has built for tablets. And News Corp moved fast - The Daily will be hitting Android tablets in the second quarter, according to All Things Digital.

Some might consider this move surprising, as Murdoch has been heavily promoting the Ipad and Apple engineers were said to be involved in the development of the Ipad app for The Daily.

But devices like the Motorola Xoom, LG G-Slate, HTC Flyer and new versions of the Samsung Galaxy Tab are coming, and Murdoch's News Corp can't afford to ignore them.

But whatever tablets The Daily is available on, it's going to encounter the same problem. Why pay for news when you can get it elsewhere for free? Murdoch has had much-publicised spats with Google in the past, having accused it of stealing his precious news with its website aggregator technology.

Whether or not Rupert can patch things up with Google will be interesting to see. But at least he's embracing the technology, although he's probably a few years late to the party. He also seems to have been pretty unlucky with his Internet technology ventures so far. MySpace, anyone? µ

You people are idiots.

This is a terrible opinion piece and you commenters are morons. Let's see, evil Murdoch, disarm forces of good, brainwash, convert to dark the side, "ebil writings", Dark Lord, dark side, filth, and lastly..you're not joking. Nazi publication? You people are the same idiots seen at every protest chanting some inane drivel because you have nothing intelligent to say. You just want to silence anyone with an opposing viewpoint because you just KNOW you're right. You sound just like Islamic extremists who say "Islam is the only true faith and Sharia is the law of god, so we will not heed the laws of the west." Except in your case your religion is abject stupidity.

Not on mine, it won't

If I want a Nazi publication, I'll jsut buy *Mein Kampf* from Amazon or Powell's - I certainly don't need Murdoch's bumf fouling my Android.

Ministry of Truth

Tablets are much better than paper. The Ministry of Truth can go back and correct back issues, for instance, without those pesky paper copies needing to go into a memory hole. If someone becomes an unperson, they can just be deleted from the server. We have always been at war with [insert current enemy].

Apple Tax

Besides covering his bases, Murdoch won't have to pay tribute to Jobs' mob with this platform if he monetizes it.

Smart move

This is a very smart move from the evil Murdoch, and somewhat disarms the forces of good. Lots of "normal" people will sign up for it. They will then be gradually brainwashed by what seems like inoffensive drivel, to the point where they believe it, and then he will convert them to the dark side and they will start buying apple's and believing the ghost of Jobs.

I liked it better when he hated us wouldn't dream of trying to get his ebil writings on good phones and tablets.

This is a sneaky from the Dark Lord and I fear that many good people will fall for it and be subsumed by the Dark Side. I suspect that Murdoch feels he will become more powerful once his apprentice enters the spirit realm and that this will give the dark side an advantage.

People should be fearing the Ghost of Jobs, not praying for it's arrival, and we should be getting the word out to warn good people not to read this filth lest the become converted subliminally.

I am not joking.
